July 4th: Girl Meets Grill

July 4th is here once again, and you know what that means! And no I’m not talking about the tiring labor that goes into preparing all the goods for the man to grill. It’s time to stake your independence with your best foot forward this summer. Men may love a woman in boots, but the truth is, the heat is giving our feet a not-so-subtle beckoning for our feet to let loose a little. You can’t frolic on the beach in boots or heels, but you sure can in a fashionably forward pair of sandals!

With all the commotion going about with the interweaving of previous seasonal trends, it’s hard to filter down to the basic necessities of not just “what a girl wants”, but “what a girl needs”.

It’s like packing for a short trip. Short in duration, as is your choice of wearable and interchangeable shoes with your day’s outfit of choice. This takes us down to the basic key words to keep in mind: wearable and necessity. This my friends, is how we not only refrain from overfeeding our suitcase with random articles but also how we whittle down our “To Buy” list.

Every girl has their inner…

Style Tips: the Understated Cool Look

Recycle and Reuse Your Neglected T-Shirt:

VS model and new girlfriend of Adam Levine, Behati Prinsloo is the queen of casual cool. Even when running about in the city that never sleeps, she manages to make even the most random T-shirts look street chic cool. Have an old T-shirt laying in the back of your closet? Though it’s been neglected by your compilation of hanger-worthy purchases, it still holds more potential than you would expect. Do like Ms. Prinsloo does and pair an old shirt with your favorite pair of black skinny jeans and your favorite pair of worn in sneakers. Freshen up that sexy bed hair with a dab of Bumble and Bumble’s Texture Creme to add an extra oomph to those tousled tresses. Throw on your favorite shades and you’re ready to hail your next yellow cabby.

Your Color Pair Dare

Take a tip from Prada for an inspirational color scheme…

Sure, colors seem to be easily paired when you stay within the same color family. Black, gray, and white seem to righteously feel natural together like the yin to its yang. Same can be said with the uprising of bold, bright colors in the latest happening trend. Of course, it’s easy when mixing and matching colors within the same family. But are you ready for your color pair dare?

Just as easily said than done, mixing within the same family is simple. Mixing blue with green is a cinch because they both are members of the same cool family. The same can be said with pairing red and orange which are both warmer shades.

Colorful Bonus: Mixing colors is also a budget friendly tactic in keeping your style fresh without hurting the bank. How’s that possible? Well, rather than having to spend more greens on a new article of clothing, mixing and matching pieces that are already in your wardrobe in unlikely color pairings can help your style remain bold, fierce, and fresh.

Some of my favorite (but often overlooked) color couples include:

Teal & Red:

actress, Jessica Alba
