Style Tips: the Understated Cool Look

Recycle and Reuse Your Neglected T-Shirt:

VS model and new girlfriend of Adam Levine, Behati Prinsloo is the queen of casual cool. Even when running about in the city that never sleeps, she manages to make even the most random T-shirts look street chic cool. Have an old T-shirt laying in the back of your closet? Though it’s been neglected by your compilation of hanger-worthy purchases, it still holds more potential than you would expect. Do like Ms. Prinsloo does and pair an old shirt with your favorite pair of black skinny jeans and your favorite pair of worn in sneakers. Freshen up that sexy bed hair with a dab of Bumble and Bumble’s Texture Creme to add an extra oomph to those tousled tresses. Test Running: the Wedge Sneakers

A couple weeks ago, I posted my reasoning on the logic behind wedged sneakers. I had observed the purposeful design of the shoe and had devised a theory behind these recently hyped about modern sneaks. Given that it is in my nature to volunteer myself as the test bunny to all my fashion theories, I was eager to purchase my first pair to prove even to myself that these high-fashion sneakers serve a purpose in assisting the illusion of an instant elongation of the legs (as its most famous counterpart, “the high heel” has done since it kicked the kitten heel to the curb).

Recess Time Never Looked So Cool.

Man v. Woman. What ultimately differentiates us is our femininity that can not be imitated. Naturally, everything from our hair, attire, to shoes appropriately compliment our feminine side. Heels are a girl’s best friend, but we have our off days too! These are the days when the summer heat seems to sizzle up from the pavement, causing our feet to call out for some form of ventilation and comfort. Sure we can slip on a pair of flats to maintain a classic look, but what about those sneakers that have been shelved away? Pairing a look with a pair of sneakers not only gives our heels a mini break, but also helps to keep our look grounded (literally and figuratively) without looking over the top for a casual day out.Why did we turn our backs away from sneakers in the first place?

Sure, the rubber flat soles are comfy and convenient, but:

a) they don’t always seem to go with our thoroughly thought-out attire for the day

b) they seem to “stumpify” our legs

A Common Concern: Wearing sneakers tend to make our legs look shorter. How so? Aside from the obvious factor of lacking a heel to give us that extra towering boost, our insecurities with our non-stick-thin calves seem to tower over our self-esteem.
